Methods to do screen captures from various platforms.

If you are accessing bioinf through any X-windows graphics interface, then the program  xview program running on bioinf can capture any image displayed in the X-window.

You bioinf account should be also set up with GIMP, which has capabilities comparable to Photoshop.  To acquire an image with GIMP:

The SGI in Dr. Demeler's office (dedicated to Insight II) will also have a GIMP icon on its desktop.  Because of the way this machine shares your directories with bioinf, there may be two GIMP icons, one of which does not work.  The one that does work may be distinguished by a name like GIMP_SGI.  You can also start GIMP from this SGI by opening a terminal window and typing gimp.  [As of this writing GIMP is not yet installed on this machine, but it should be there by the time you need it.  Ask Dr. Demeler if you have difficulties finding the program.]

If your interface is running under another operating system, such as Microsoft Windows or Mac Os, then there may also be an option to use a screen capture utility running locally.

If you are using LaserGene or Oligo6.0 from a PC, then you will need to do Windows screen capture as described above..

If you are using the site-licensed Vector NTI, it has a built in utility named "camera".  But it only works on items within the Vector NTI windows.

If you are using an SGI in the structure center cluster, there is a utility called snapshot that can be used.  The format saved will be .rgb.  The SGI in Dr. Demeler's office (dedicated to Insight II) also has snapshot.  As of this writing the convert utility that is needed together with snapshot is not yet installed there, but it should be there soon.
