*** GENERAL NOTIFICATION REGARDING PROBABLE US MILITARY ACTION ***

 

Summary

 

This notification is for information only.  The Information Security Office
recommends that TSRs share this 

information with their users.

 

The Department of Homeland Security has increased the Terrorist Attack
Threat Advisory to Orange (High Risk of 

Attack). [http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/display?theme=29]

 

Although we do not anticipate a direct cyber attack on The University of
Texas Health Science Center at San 

Antonio, the probability of US military action increases the risk that the
Internet (World Wide Web and other 

Internet based services) and other critical communication facilities may be
targeted to disrupt worldwide 

services.  

 

We all rely upon the Internet to varying degrees of criticality.  There may
be slowness in transmission of data 

or complete unavailability of some external organizational sites.  Redundant
emergency communications exist, 

but they may be slower than normal Internet access.  It does not mean that
there is a problem with the UTHSCSA 

network or our data communications links.  Be Patient.

 

Plan accordingly.  

 

*           Ensure that your virus software is up to date and configured
correctly

*           Do not open email from unknown originators

*           Review your backup strategy

*           Report information security incidents
