Bo,
Sorry for the delay in responding -- we do have a development that seems
appropriate for the conference. However, since it is new research and grant
funding is at stake, I have been delayed in getting approval to talk about
it. Actually, Dr. Arya and I mentioned this initiative at the TACC meeting,
but we weren't sure if we should talk much about it. I will strive to get a
presentation draft in the next day or so, and show it around, to get
consensus agreement that we can say thus and so.

FYI, this is the project we have been cooking up to try out on your cluster.
It involves new (or at least advanced) diagnostic screening using both
genetic and epidemiological data, but there have been some licensing
questions for large or unlimited copies. At this point I am probably the
best one to give the computer science side of the story, which should be an
interesting talk for HiPCaT.

Subject: [Ut-grid] HiPCaT Conference at UTHSCSA Jan 27

Dear Colleagues,

Please mark your calendar:

On January 27th we will be hosting the next HiPCaT conference
(HiPCaT = High Performance Computing across Texas) right here at UTHSCSA.

This meeting will provide us with an opportunity to showcase HPC
initiatives at UTHSCSA and UTSA to our colleagues at other HiPCaT
institutions. My hope is to generate interest and discussion for efforts
that lead to grid computing implementations on the new TIGRE grid (Texas
Internet Grid for Research and Education), which will run on the new
LEARN backbone (LEARN = Lone Star Education and Research Network - I'm
going nuts with all these acronyms! - a 10 GB ethernet network loop to
facilitate grid computing and high-bandwidth data exchange). Here is your
chance to present your ideas for a grid implementation of your application
to the experts in the field, and to get valuable feedback. Right now,
HiPCaT is looking for applications suitable for TIGRE implementation.

We will have HPC experts from several Texas institutions present at this
meeting, and they would like to know what we have in store. Even if you
don't have a parallelized MPI application ready to go, but have some ideas
on how your application may benefit from grid computing, I would like to
recruit you as a speaker for this meeting. I would like to arrange several
speakers for 15-20 minute presentations + 5 minute question/answer period.

If you are interested to present a short talk about your compute-intensive
application, please contact me soon so I can reserve a speaker slot for you.

The conference will be held in the presidential conference room in the new
administration building, and it will be broadcast on the AccessGrid. Please
respond no later than 1/15 if you are interested to give a presentation.

Thanks, -Borries
