Operating instructions for AV system in 409L.
These instructions are primarily for operating a powerpoint presentation
from your laptop, but 2x2 slide projectors and other forms of projection
require working through the same menu system.
-
The room lights are controlled from an array of buttons on the back panel
of the table to the right of the lectern.
-
If the screen on the right of the lectern is dark, touch it till it comes
on.
-
The first screen mainly says to touch the screen; touch it until you get
the login screen.
-
As far as I know, everyone uses the same username and password. You
can obtain it by asking others who have used the system, or by calling
the phone number indicated on this screen (7-1515). There is a phone
just outside the door into the lecture room.
-
Enter the username<enter>, then the password <enter>
-
From the screen asking for a choice between video conferencing and a presentation,
choose presentation.
-
From the next screen asking for a selection of slides or video presentation,
choose video. I presume the slides option refers to operating the
2x2 slide projectors.
-
The next screen selects a variety of equipment that can be used.
For a powerpoint presentation, from your own laptop choose "laptop".
-
I believe you can bring your presentation on just a floppy disk, or zip
disk, or CD-ROM, and use the computer which is in the cabinet on the floor
just to the right of the lectern. If you press "console" rather than
"laptop" and turn on the computer on the floor, Windows 2000 boots up on
the screen on the left of the lectern, and your keyboard and mouse are
in the tray that slides out of the lectern. Windows 2000 requires
yet again a different password, which I presume requires another phone
call to obtain.
-
Assuming that you brought your own computer: On the next screen:
-
Wait for the system to finish initializing.
-
Select "computer" in the upper left.
-
On the menu appearing on the bottom of the screen, select "laptop"
-
Underneath laptop, select "table".
-
Plug your laptop into the cable coming from the port on the table at the
right labeled "laptop" and turn it on..
-
If your laptop is on, but the projector displays "no signal", then you
may have to activate the auxiliary video output port to which the projection
system is connected. Laptops often have a toggle switch to activate
the rear video output port. It is often something like Fn F8 or Fn
F4 (the Fn key works like a shift key). The relevant key may be labeled
with the initials CRT, or sometimes cryptically with two rectangles separated
by a slash. The key usually toggles through 3 states: 1) only laptop
screen active, 2) only auxiliary screen active (the auxiliary screen is
the projector), or 3) both active.
-
The lights and projection screen can be controlled from the buttons on
the rear panel of the table to the right of the lectern.
-
There are microphones intended to pick up voice without having to wear
one. If you get feedback, mute them by touching the "mute mic" button
on the lower right of the screen.
